Questions

What's the difference between an estimate and a quote?
An estimate is your best guess at the price, which can change once the work starts. A quote is a fixed price for the work described. Many trades use the words interchangeably; say clearly on the document which one it is.
How long should an estimate be valid?
30 days is common. Material prices and your schedule change, so a valid-until date stops a client accepting an old price months later.
Should I ask for a deposit?
For larger jobs or special-order materials, a 10–50% deposit protects you if the client cancels. Write the deposit and when the balance is due in the notes.
